Canon ip4600
No CommentsOverview – This article is intended to collate information available on the internet to give a fair and unbiased overview of the Canon Pixma ip 4600. I hope I have included enough of the features and gathered enough of the pros and cons to give you an all round view of this product. Set up – There is a clearly set out 6 stage process included in the documentation, however at the point where the printhead self-alignment procedure is on screen you need to choose ‘Execute’ rather than ‘Next’. If you do ‘Next’ it doesn’t carry out the alignment process and there is no back button to allow you to re-select it. It takes approx 30 minutes to set up overall. Photo printing – high quality prints with fine detail are thanks to a separate dye based black ink for photos and a resolution of 9600×2400dpi. A photolab- quality print takes just 20 seconds! Quality and efficiency is maintained with the use of five separate ink tanks, simply replace each colour as required. You would be hard pushed to separate the photo prints produced on this printer from a professional photolab! Document Printing – Printing documents at normal quality on basic paper produces excellent results, fine for routine documents. For a litho print finish, use good paper with high quality printing for exceptional copy. Text is crisp and black and well defined. If you use a lot of graphics and illustrations, the quality and vibrancy of the colours is really impressive. Easy to Use – with Canons Easy-PhotoPrint EX it’s easy to print calendars, albums and photos. Auto Photo Fix automatically corrects photos, including red-eye correction. Auto duplex makes double sided printing straightforward. Two paper trays allow users to have plain and photo paper loaded at once. Print on DVD/CD – You can personalise your DVD’s and CD’s simply by printing directly on to the surface of a printable DVD or CD. CD LabelPrint software allows you to create layouts with your own text and images. Print Direct – Pictbridge technology means you can print direct from compatible digital cameras, camcorders or mobile phones without using a PC. Ink – Although there are inks available at cheaper prices it is better to follow the manufacturers advice and use the true canon color inks to get the true quality of this pixma printer. Using the cheap non branded inks simply shorten the life of your printer and don’t produce the same quality prints. However, most reviews state there are few differences between the ip4500 and the ip4600 but the ink cartridges are completely different. The ip4600 uses the new 9ml versions as opposed to the 13ml on the ip4500. Although the RRP is cheaper on the 9ml version it still represents a higher cost in ink. The price of ink is always going to be a bone of contention! It is worth noting that Canon do allow you to replace/repair the print head which could save you the cost of a new printer in the long run. Operating Systems – Windows and Mac OS X compatible. In my opinion this is a great little printer with far more capabilities than its small price tag suggests.
