The Canon HV40 is a MiniDV-based camcorder that belongs to the company’s Vixia line of high definition (HD) video cameras. It is one of the few camcorders that uses the miniDV cassette from any manufacturer that have been released for 2009. However, it offers only slight improvements to its predecessor, the HV30. Thus, aside from a few design changes and the addition of the native-progressive 24p mode, the HV40 is virtually the same as the HV30. The Canon HV40 has low noise levels and robust color saturation. Its 10x zoom lens is provided with an automatic cover and it performs decently in low light conditions. Its manual controls offer several scene modes, image effects and white balance presets. It offers a good selection of options for frame rate and it offers high definition and standard definition video recording capabilities. The buttons can easily be accessed and its battery pack has a good battery life. However, the design of the Canon HV40 is bulky and awkward. Its images are not as sharp as the Canon HF S10 and HF S11 and it has only average color accuracy. It does not have a completely manual mode and the photographs can only be stored in MiniSD cards instead of the better known SD/SDHC cards. The Canon HV40 is less expensive than the Panasonic HDC-TM300 but the latter camcorder has more features and has a more comfortable grip. The TM300 is also easier to use for novices and it has a lens ring and several manual controls that are not available in the HV40. When compared with its cousin, the HF S100, the HV40 is slightly cheaper but the HF S100 has better performance and features, aside from the fact that it uses flash memory instead of tape. On the other hand, the HF S100 is not provided with a native 24p mode and it does not have a viewfinder. In conclusion, the HV40 fulfills the requirements of those who still prefer working with videotape. It may also be preferable than the flash memory models if price is a major consideration. However, getting a less expensive HV30 may be a better choice if the native 24p mode is not needed.

Selecting a camcorder can be a tough affair and that’s why Thor as created a website dedicated to the Canon Vixia HV40 camcorder. He has also created one for it’s cousin the Canon Vixia HF S100 camcorder.

Founded in August 1937 in Tokyo, Canon is a leading producer of imaging and optical products. With regional offices placed all around the world, Canon has become a global brand, producing quality printers, camcorders, and other products. Canon’s development of the VIXIA camcorder line has really demonstrated their power and reputation in the industry. A recent release, the Canon VIXIA HF200 offers a wide range of features that, while costing the customer a bit more, gives way more as well. Look to the HF200 if you want a camcorder that packs more features than it looks like it can hold. At the top of the feature list is the recording directly to a memory card. Rather than having to link the device up directly to a computer and transfer the video out, like most MiniDV camcorders require, the HF200 allows you to remove the memory card to view the video immediately. No transfers, no re-transfers, and a whole lot of saved time. Surprisingly, the VIXIA HF200 weighs only 12 ounces flat. While other camcorders that don’t quite match up with the HF200’s features weigh upwards of two pounds, or 32 ounces, the HF200 keeps itself within a manageable weight. With all of the features it has, this is an excellent weight. The HF200 records at up to 24Mbps, which is currently the highest recording quality available for any camcorder on the market. The common problem of recording a moving subject was virtually solved when Canon put the 24Mbps quality into the VIXIA HF200. Canon’s VIXIA HF200 takes face detection to a whole new level. While the earliest camcorders that had this detection ability tracked down only a few faces for each shot, the VIXIA HF200 can now fully detect up to 35 faces at once, with up to 9 frames shown at any one time. A Canon exclusive feature, the HF200 has instant auto focus, effectively reducing the time it takes to track into a subject. This is one of the major ways that moving subjects can now be accurately recorded. Changing subject is also extremely easy with this feature, available in Canon’s newer camcorders. The 24p cinema mode makes your video look professional. This cinema mode changes up the recording capture rate to match those used in actual movies. The camcorder can also change up the color so that the classic film look (a bit darker) is achieved. If you’re looking for a camera that offers a wide range of features, the Canon VIXIA HF200 is the way to go. While it is a bit more expensive than you would expect, the extra money you pay gets you the extra features. You can find a Canon VIXIA HF200 for around $600, a small price to pay for an extremely well upgraded set of features.

At Camcorders for Sale, you can find the lowest prices on camcorders like the Canon VIXIA HF200.
